Growing up in the midst of urban sprawl in Northwest San Antonio, Texas, I witnessed an ongoing battle waged between developers and environmentalists. Is there a way to come to an agreement here, I wondered, to achieve economic prosperity while being good stewards of the natural environment?
Intrigued by this problem, I went on to study Construction Management at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and eventually went to work for Alison Young at Sustainable Perspectives Group (SPG), a small, local woman-owned and woman-staffed Green Building Consulting firm.
In my eight years with SPG, I became an expert on the LEED green building rating system, managing sustainable design and construction for a wide variety of projects, including commercial office buildings, hospitality, healthcare, educational facilities and governmental projects. A lot has changed over the years, and now I’m the president of Resilient Oak Consulting, LLC., a firm providing green building consulting, LEED exam prep courses, and architectural specification writing in San Antonio and South Texas.
